Brazil Economy Adds More Jobs than Expected
The Brazilian economy added 190.37 thousand formal jobs in October of 2023, firmly above market expectations of 123.4 thousand to mark the tenth consecutive period of net job creation. This figure represents a considerable increase from the 159.5 thousand growth in the corresponding period of the previous year. The Services sector saw the most significant rise in formal employment, adding a net total of 109,939 jobs. Additionally, the Brazilian economy has added nearly 1.8 million new vacancies in 2023. This aligns with the historically tight labor market in the Brazilian economy, maintaining relatively stable average salaries and removing the urgency for the central bank to continue cutting its interest rate.

Brazilian Economy Adds Jobs for 9th Month
The Brazilian economy created 211.76 thousand formal jobs in September of 2023, above market expectations of 208.85 thousand but down from 220.88 thousand in the previous month. It marked the ninth consecutive month of job growth, primarily driven by a robust performance in the key service sector, which added 98,206 jobs. Job gains were also observed in other surveyed sectors, including commerce (43,465), industry (43,214), construction (20,941), and agriculture (5,942). The average monthly salary for these newly created positions saw a slight reduction, amounting to BRL 2,032.07. Year-to-date, the Ministry of Labor reported the creation of 1.599 million jobs.

Brazil Job Growth Tops Forecasts in August
The Brazilian economy created 220.9 thousand formal jobs in August of 2023, above market expectations of 178 thousand and up from 142.7 thousand in the previous month. It marks the eighth consecutive month of job growth and the strongest since February this year, on the back of a strong performance in the key service sector (+114,439). Job gains were also recorded in the other surveyed sectors, namely commerce (+41,843), industry (+31,086), construction (+28,359) and agriculture (+5,126). The average monthly salary for newly created positions remained unchanged from July, at BRL 2,038. Year-to-date, the ministry reported the creation of 1.388 million jobs so far.
