Retail sales in Russia grew by 9.1% from a year earlier in January 2024, the least in nine months and after a 10.2% advance in the prior month. Monthly, retail sales tumbled by 20.8% in Janaury, after a 16.9% rise in the previous month.

Russia Retail Sales Growth Misses Forecasts
Retail sales in Russia grew by 10.2% from a year earlier in December 2023, after a 10.5% advance in the prior month, but below market forecasts of a 12% rise. It marked the ninth consecutive month of growth in the country's retail activity and at a solid pace. Monthly, retail sales jumped by 16.9% in December, the most in a year, after a 1.8% fall in the previous month. For the whole of 2023, retail sales rose 6.4% after a 6.5% slump in 2022 following Western sanctions in response to Russia's actions in Ukraine that disrupted trade and led many Western retailers to withdraw from the Russian market.
