Canada Wholesale Sales Unexpectedly Edge Up in January
Wholesale sales in Canada unexpectedly edged up 0.1% month-over-month to C$82.4 billion in January 2024, following a downwardly revised 0.3% decrease in the prior month and defying the preliminary estimates of 0.6% drop, final reading showed. Largest increases were seen in machinery, equipment & supplies subsector (1.4%) and the personal and household goods subsector (1.8%). On the other hand, sales fell for farm products (-3.5%) and building material and supplies (-2.9%). Among provinces, five out of ten experienced a rise, led by Quebec (0.8%).
